Ficus carica, the Common Fig tree is well-known all over Europe, Middle East and North Africa. This unique species of deciduous Ficus was so much spread by humans since the beginning of times, that its real origin remains uncertain but probably takes place in Mesopotamia. Ficus carica grows as a small gnarled deciduous tree or as a big bush, starting from the soil up to 5 meters high. The figs are edible as well as ornamental and turn purple at maturity.
