Quercus rubra, the Eastern red oak, is native to the eastern United States and Canada where it remains the dominant oak species alongside the red swamp oak (Quercus palustris). It is a fast-growing oak which is very popular in public spaces in temperate environments. The popularity stems from its flamboyant scarlet red coloration in autumn. The American red oak is a tree with an average of 25m in height with a broad crown and a trunk that quickly becomes very thick. This makes it an interesting forest species, even through its wood is not very durable.
