Aesculus x carnea, the red horse chestnut is a hybrid between the European Aesculus hippocastanum (the common horse chestnut) and the American Aesculus pavia (the dwarf red bukeye). The result of this marriage is a marvelous average and round tree of 20 meters tall, with spectacular red flowers on dark foliage turning gold in fall.
