The Salix alba pollarded is a special shape of the White willow, naturally formed from years of manual pruning, usually for basketry. Such pruning creates a short and gnarled trunk with lots of damages and burls, covered on top by a cap of young yellow twigs. Salix alba is generally a species growing along riverbanks all over Europe and Central Asia, but it can also be cultivated in dryer places.
