Nelumbo lutea, the American lotus, is very similar to the Asian sacred lotus. The two main differences are its flower color that ranges from white to yellow and its stronger resistance to frost. Nelumbo nucifera can be found mainly at the north American east coast of from Lake Michigan down to Panama.
