Cordyline australis, the cabbage tree, is native to the New Zealand open bush where it grows up to 20 meters in height. Cordyline australis usually starts growing with a single trunk and rapidly creates ramifications, each ending with narrow leaved tufts. It is reminiscent of a more flexible version of the American Joshua tree (Yucca brevifolia). In tropical to warm temperate areas, it is commonly used for landscaping, as it grows fast, is very eye-pleasing, easy to cultivate and is resistant to cuts and pruning.
