Thypha latifolia, the common cattail, can grow up to 3 meters in height and is one of the most emblematic plants in the aquatic environment on the planet, along with the common reed. The common cattail is also present on all continents and in almost all climates except for the hottest ones. It is not found in brackish water either because it cannot withstand salt. Like Phragmites australis, it is an essential agent in the purification and oxygenation of aquatic environments.
