Picea engelmannii; the Engelmann Spruce, is probably the most common spruce species in the American Rocky Mountains, from New Mexico to British Colombia and Alberta, where it is very often the dominant tree species you will find between an altitude of 1300 and 3000 meters. The Engelmann spruce is a slim coniferous tree of moderate height (up to 35 meters), even when exceptional specimens of up to 60 meters in height are known. The needles vary from green to blue-ish.
