Washingtonia robusta, the Mexican fan palm, is a close relative to the California fan palm. It can be distinguished by a faster growth rate, a slimmer trunk, a shorter skirt and a taller silhouette (up to 30 meters tall). Even if the Mexican fan palm is a bit less hardy than Washingtonia filifera, it is easy to cultivate and a fast grower. This results in it being the second most cultivated palm in the world in tropical and mediterranean climates.
