The Pinus ponderosa juvenile procedural vegetation model simulates ponderosa pines in their infancy, from seedling to approximatively 11 years old. The Pinus ponderosa, a common pine in the Rocky Mountains, grows from British Columbia to North Mexico at 300-3100 meters. Big and pyramidal, it can reach 50 meters in height. Often mistaken for Pinus jeffreyii, it can be identified by smaller cones (2x smaller), larger size, and greenish needles. Ponderosa is a vital timber species in the western US but primarily grown as an ornamental elsewhere.
