Aesculus x carnea, the red horse chestnut, is a hybrid between the European Aesculus hippocastanum (the common horse chestnut) and the American Aesculus pavia (the dwarf red buckeye). The result of this marriage is a marvelous average and round tree of 20 meters in height with spectacular red flowers on dark foliage which turns golden in fall.
