Thuja plicata, the Western Red Cedar, is native to the humid area of the Pacific side of the Rocky Mountains and to coastal ranges from North California to South Alaska and Alberta. The Western Red Cedar is a tall, fast-growing tree that can grow as high as 55 meters. It is widely cultivated for the quality of its wood in the timber industry, and for its ornamental shape elsewhere in the world. It is one of the rare coniferous species that supports cutting and pruning, Thuja plicata is also widely used for creating hedges in gardens.
