Nymphaea alba, the European white water lily, is an aquatic plant widespread in the wild in many ponds of Europe, the Middle East and as far as western temperate Asia. It is also quite common in cultivation elsewhere and often hybridized with other species. In the wild, the flowers of the European white water lily are mostly white, but sometimes also pink with varying degrees of intensity. The leaves emerge purplish red and then turn green when ripe. The Nymphaea alba grows in water depths between 60 to 120 centimeters.
