Trachycarpus fortunei, the windmill palm, is a palm which reaches an average of 15 meters in height. It is native to the Southern China mountains where it grows in forests and open lands. It can be found up to an altitude of 2400 meters and in fresh and humid climates. From its original location, the windmill palm has inherited an incredible resistance to humid frost (up to -18°c). It therefore quickly became very popular in urban and garden design in temperate climate areas.
