Picea abies, the Norway spruce, an iconic Christmas figure, is probably the most known spruce in the world. Native from Europe and West Asia, the Norway spruce is also one of the most important timber species worldwide in temperate to cold climate. It is appreciated for is hardiness and fast growth rate (it can commonly grow up to 40 meters high). Picea abies is also known to be one of the oldest vegetal species known on earth, with a specimen estimated being 9 550 years old in Fulufjället National Park, Sweden.
