Pinus ponderosa branch is a hight quality derivative model of the main ponderosa pine procedural vegetation model, specially designed for branch close-up render. The ponderosa pine is one of the most common pines found in the Rocky Mountains from British Columbia (Canada) to North Mexico where it grows from an altitude of 300 to 3100 meters. It is a big pine showing a regular pyramidal shape and grows up to 50 meters. Pinus ponderosa is often confused with Pinus jeffreyii. The 2 species can grow together in California on the same site. The distinction between the two can be made by comparing the (which are 2 times smaller than jeffreyi), its global size (ponderosa is generally bigger) and the needles tend towards a greener tint. Ponderosa is an important species for timber in the western United States but is mostly cultivated elsewhere as ornamental trees only.
