Cyperus papyrus, the papyrus sedge, is the tallest species in the cyperaceae family, with some specimens reaching up to 5 meters in height in Africa - its area of origin. In Egypt, the papyrus sedge has been used since the antiquity in the making of types of paper. Nowadays, it is much more commonly used as an ornamental plant for tropical ponds or as an indoor plant.
