Festuca glauca, the blue fescue, is native to Europe where it grows in small and dense clusters of approx. 50 cm size across all dimensions. In the wild, the blue fescue grows in dry and windy scrubland and steppe landscapes, as well as on cliffs and dunes along the seashore. Despite its European origin, Festuca glauca is certainly the most famous blue grass used in garden and landscape design worldwide in temperate climates. In the USA, Festuca arizonica is a relatively close native blue fescue species.
